System 8 lottery selections: why eight chosen numbers contain 28 six-number lines

Choosing eight distinct numbers for every possible six-number line produces 28 different combinations. It does not produce eight lines, and it does not turn one six-number line into an eight-number winning requirement.

The simplest way to count the lines is to count what each line leaves out: two of the eight chosen numbers.

Count omitted pairs instead of writing every long line

The PCSO LottoMatik Game Manual describes system play alongside the six-number Lotto format. This article explains the combinatorial structure, without quoting a current ticket price, draw schedule or payout. OpenStax’s counting principles provide the combination method.

Label eight distinct chosen numbers A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H. Every six-number line is uniquely identified by the two letters omitted. Leaving out A and B produces C D E F G H. Leaving out A and C produces B D E F G H.

The total is 7 + 6 + 5 + 4 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 28. Equivalently, choose 2 from 8: 8 × 7 ÷ 2 = 28. Dividing by two removes the duplicate order A–B versus B–A. Choosing six to keep gives the same count as choosing two to omit.

One matched six-number set is still one specific line

If all six drawn numbers belong to the chosen eight, exactly one of those 28 six-number lines equals the complete drawn set. Other lines can have partial matches, depending on which numbers they omit. Their possible prize treatment needs the actual product rules.

If even one drawn number is outside the selected eight, no line built exclusively from those eight can match all six. The system does not supply missing numbers after the result is known.

Separate the line count from cost and value

At an invented uniform price of c units per line, 28 lines would cost 28c. That algebra is not a current PCSO price quotation. Actual purchase formats, fees and prize conditions must come from the current official product information.

The count explains coverage, not an advantage per unit spent or a forecast. For checking a record, retain the eight distinct selections and verify that each represented line contains six different numbers. A duplicated selected number would break the assumption behind the 28-line calculation.
